EUROFLO® provides fast, efficient drainage option for Springwell Rise, new residential development in Otago
Stormwater drainage for a new residential development in Milton, Otago has gone in quickly and easily after the decision was made to swap from concrete to EUROFLO® pipes.
Springwell Rise subdivision developer Andrew Clark says the initial decision to select concrete pipe for the development was made based on what had been used in the district previously and availability of stock.
“After talking to the team at P&F Global we realised EUROFLO® HDPE pipe could be a really good option for Springwell Rise — it met council requirements and the team had all the sizes and stock we needed.”
As the pipe hadn’t been used in the area before P&F Global’s Wayde Hastings, met with the local Clutha District Council team to explain the pipe properties and confirm its compliance with regulations.
Andrew says the support and expert guidance from the P&F Global team was valuable and the assistance with council, including taking the time to meet with key people face-to-face, helped with compliance processes.
The first EUROFLO® product used for the Springwell Rise development was an 800mm pipe for a stormwater pond, back in 2021, and since then more than 400 metres of EUROFLO® pipe has been laid for the project (including SN8-rated 500mm, 630mm and 800mm pipe) and Andrew and his team are on the cusp of receiving title for stage one of the development.
“The reality of the amount the team could lay per day was so much better — we were amazed at how much we could do in a day. The lighter weight pipe also addressed safety issues for us. Where concrete pipes have in the past presented real challenges for transport and onsite handling, with EUROFLO® even one person could safely manoeuvre each end of a pipe, which made it much easier to work and safer for the team.”
The KB Contractors was also commissioned to work on stormwater drainage for the development, including laying pipe in a deep 3-metre trench.
KB Contractors GM Danny van der Voort said it was the first time his team had used EUROFLO® pipes, with jobs often specifying concrete or PVC pipe.
“It was a great product to work with. It’s hard to quantify exactly but using the EUROFLO® pipe sped up the process significantly, maybe even twice as quick.”
Danny says in addition to being lighter weight and easier to handle than most alternatives, the fact EUROFLO® pipe comes in 5.8 metre lengths — twice as long as the concrete pipes they typically work with — also meant the job required fewer joins.
Stage one of the development is now complete with the first 35 house and land packages available to buy from the plans. The marketing copy for the development invites potential buyers to “scan the expanse of the Tokomairiro Plains” and “lift your gaze to the rolling hills and mountain ranges all around” — and anyone buying a section can also rest assured the drainage under their feet is future-proofed for decades to come.
